Story
Background
At its core, a story is simply about a character with a problem. All stories have three elements - conflict, struggle and resolution. Drama comes from conflict, its why all the focus on storytelling is always on conflict.
"No tears in the writer, no tears in the reader. No surprise for the writer, no surprise for the reader." - Robert Frost
In a screenplay, your opening scene ideally captures the reader's interest, the development of the first act holds that interest, the obstacles and complications increase it, the climax exalts it and the resolution satisfies that interest. We will look at numerous story techniques to advise you on the best path you will take for your script.
